Major attractions include:
- Villa Montalvo and Villa Montalvo Arboretum, home of the Montalvo Center for the Arts
- Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards
- Hakone Japanese Garden
- Mountain Winery, a seasonal concert venue and
- Sanborn County Park, offering cool trails over hot summer months
In 2010 Bloomberg named Saratoga the most expensive suburb in California. Ranked by Forbes (2009) as one of America's top 20 most-educated small towns.[11] in 2011 Bloomberg reported that the average household income was $237,804 with an average household net worth of $1,516,018.
Originally inhabited by the indigenous Ohlone tribe, Sarataoga was then taken over by European settlers who constructed a sawmill and began harvesting the lush forest. Industry sprang up, including a grist mill, a tannery and a paper factory. When minerals springs were discovered, the town was named Saratoga, after the city in New York famous for similar waters.
Over the years Saratoga became agricultural, as did much of the surrounding area; the town urbanized after WWII, incorporating in 1956 to avoid being annexed to San Jose, using the slogan "Keep it rural". The slogan seems to have worked… Today Saratoga, a bedroom community for Silicon Valley boasting great schools and amenities, is proud of its many hiking trails and lush vineyards.
