PLEASANTON – AN OVERVIEW
Pleasanton is situated at the crossroads of two major Interstate Highways, I-580 and I-680. These roads mirror the prehistoric cross-routes of Native American tribes who used the original pathways as major trading routes. Still an important hub for business, Pleasanton is the wealthiest midsize city in the nation, home to several start-ups as well as the regional offices of Kaiser Permanente, Safeway, Oracle, and Macy's.
The historic downtown area features architectural styles dating back to the mid-19th century. Strolling the city you’ll see buildings in Gothic, Pioneer, Italiate, and Colonial styles. It’s no wonder the locals walk a lot, especially during their many regular community events.
Even with industrial growth, Pleasanton manages to retain a small town flavor. Every Saturday morning a farmers’ market sets up just off Main Street. There are multiple family-friendly parades during the year, as well as the big Alameda County Fair and First Wednesday, a street fair event held throughout the summer months. Another Pleasanton tradition is the Friday Concerts in the Park , held from from June until September.
Ranked number 4 by USA Today (2014) in their"America's 50 Best Cities to Live In" list, Pleasanton was also named one of "Americans' Top Hometown Spots" by Forbes (2009). Today this safe community retains its appeal as a family-friendly suburb with great schools.
