Dublin Market Report

growing in size and diversity

Dublin, California

About 35 miles from San Francisco, 25 miles from Oakland, and 30 miles from downtown San Jose, at the intersection of Interstates 580 and 680, you’ll find Dublin – a community growing in size and diversity, with a lot to offer. Dublin is the second-fastest-growing city in the state of California.

Attractions include the Farmers Market, a pool and water park, and proximity to hiking and beach-side walks. It’s warm in summer and cool in winter but not too foggy. Dublin boasts good schools (see reviews here) and home prices relative to surrounding cities. With low crime and easy access to BART, this area is among the most flexible in offering transport to jobs in any of the major Bay Area locations at an affordable price – with the option of mass transit.

In 1960, the first housing tracts appeared, quickly changing a rural community into a suburb. Residences and retail centers sprang up, and the remodeling and expansion continue even now. A large Asian and Indian population calls Dublin home, and with that comes a delicious variety of cuisines. Whether it’s dim sum, boba tea, shaved ice, Malaysian, Singaporean, Korean, or Vietnamese food, you can find it here, including numerous Asian and Indian bakeries and supermarkets. There’s also Greek, Persian, Mexican, traditional American, and delicious health-conscious restaurants.

In 2016 NerdWallet analyzed data from the Census Bureau and ranked Dublin in the Top 5 Best Places for Young Families in Northern California. They looked at education, home affordability, family-friendliness, and growth and prosperity (nearby San Ramon came in third, while Dublin placed fourth.) They said: “Dublin is located on the BART train line, allowing for a car-free commute to the East Bay or San Francisco, and its crime risk score of “most safe” is the highest possible. Median family income grew 54.88% in Dublin from 1999 to 2014.”

Each year Dublin hosts Splatter, a popular food, art, and wine festival for the whole family (here’s Splatter’s Facebook page). The city is home to a wide range of parks and open space areas, including the 654-acre Dublin Hills Regional Park.
